The Roaches and Lud’s Church
The Roaches and Luds Church
10 miles distance and a 5-6 hour walk – 10 miles from the cottage
A fantastic walk in the Stafforshire Peak District. This route includes The Roaches and Hen Cloud both with beautiful views of the area, then on to Lud’s Church for a completely different experience. The Lud’s Church walk is one of those must-visit places in the Peak District and this walk is combined with two other beautiful locations.
Lud’s Church is not an actual church building but it is known to have been a place of worship many years ago. From the moment you step down into the chasm of Lud’s Church, you’re greeted with the wow factor. It’s perfect for kids to explore and adults to marvel at the unique place that lies before them – photos don’t do it justice, but this is definitely a place to see with your own eyes.
This route starts in Upper Hulme and first takes you on a steep climb up to Hen Cloud, with views of the Tittersworth Reservoir to the west. From here you head down towards the Roaches and make your way along the top until you drop down and walk through some woods before reaching Lud’s Church. You then loop back and take a path parallel to the Roaches, but lower-level, until you reach Ramshaw Rocks then it’s back to the start at Upper Hulme.
